I love to preach, teach, encourage and laugh loudly! I love to remember and I love to remind. In 2013 I started feeling the call to encourage the lost and the seeking by being a speaker and writer. I had been pastoring at Scum of the Earth Church since its inception in 2000. I had curated an art gallery, been the director of Women's Ministry, and had begun to preach as well. Although Scum is a wonderful congregation I felt the call to minister to a broader audience. Many people I had met at Five Iron Frenzy concerts were reaching out to me for encouragement and Biblical teaching. The notion that God wanted me to engage a broader audience has been affirmed by many in my life. I had been praying for a ministry to take me under her wing, to help me fly and to understand the nuances of my ministry style. Joining the Urban Skye team is the next season for me and I am thrilled and excited for this next season following Jesus!
My work with Urban Skye:
The Lord has given me a strong drive, energy level, extroverted personality as well as an ability to encourage others. I have always seen CALL as a lot of choice....almost like a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book. I love to try new ministry styles and imaginatively create curriculum. At this season of life I am called to serve my family as well as to pursue the burned out/skeptical seeker. I am involved in pastoral care of individuals, including, but not limited to: homeless women (through The Women's Homelessness Initiative), engaged and married couples (using the Prepare and Enrich curriculum) and many individuals that don't fit into the norm at many churches. I am currently writing devotionals, curriculum, sermons and possibly a book! I am also available to speak at events and will be working on retreats for the future.
At the young age of 18 I joined a Christian ska-punk band based out of Denver, Five Iron Frenzy to be the saxophonist! The other bandmates were healthy Christian young men who basically discipled me the 9 years we traveled the US and abroad to play concerts. That band started the Bible study in the punk band house which eventually became Scum of the Earth Church in 2000. In the first years I had not had much training in ministry other than life experience. I had attended Colorado Christian University for 2 years with an emphasis in Youth Ministry and Biblical Studies but had not graduated. In fact, I had left CCU to travel the world with Five Iron Frenzy but later I decided to finish my college degree. In 2006 I earned a BA with a major in Sociology and a minor in Spanish from Metropolitan State College.
I will be 40 in 2016 and I am still filled with passion to share the saving love of Christ! I live in beautiful Colorado with my husband of 12 years, Stephen, and our children, Eliseo and Inez. I am blessed every day by those that financially and prayerfully support and encourage me in ministry.
